Regarding Seafield, the BPCC opposes irresponsible development and the zoning change that would be required from A1 – residential to NH-H – commercial health facility. The location of the proposed Seafield treatment center is in the heart of a residential zone, and the required zoning change would set a dangerous precedent throughout the entire Town of Brookhaven. The fact that Seafield wants to open an inpatient drug treatment facility is irrelevant. We would be equally opposed to a hospital, bank, gas station or retail facility opening in the same area. As concerned citizens, we understand the crisis of addiction and the need for treatment centers. However, there are more responsible locations throughout the town that are zoned properly and are available for Seafield to consider.
