The BPCC was informed of an incident at 165 Montauk Highway in Blue Point on May 13th. After gathering information from the community, including a FOIL (Freedom of Information Law) report on police activity at the property, we reached out to Councilman Neil Foley regarding the on May 16th. On average, this property experiences 21+ police visits per year and as a result, is a nuisance to the surrounding Blue Point neighborhoods. The following is the message sent to the councilman’s office.
Given the high amount of police activity, we as the community feel that this property would fall under the classification of a nuisance property as defined by Chapter 49B of the Brookhaven Town Code. This combined with potential violations of the ordinances outlined in Chapter 82 of the Brookhaven Town Code, as well as potential building and fire code violations, warrants the attention of town officials. The residents of Blue Point respectfully request your further attention to this property. We thank you for the efforts you’ve made there so far, and if there is any further assistance the community can provide, please let us know.
We received a reply from the Councilman’s office the following day, 5/17 which indicated that they are currently coordinating with the assistant town attorney as to how to best address the property and will notify us once a course of action is determined. We will post updates for the community as we receive follow up information.
